What argment of the work do these two images have in common?
Well the imaage on page 172 in SWW shows what looks to be a dragon made of numbers and a man holding a pen trying to fight off the dragon. The title of the image is Busines is a series of battles. We make chariots. The images to me symbolizes what business is like everyday. Dealing with overwhemling amounts of work and numbers can outgrow you and consume you by working too much. This compares to the image on page 278 in SWW the We Can Do It! poster because it is telling women that they can be equal to men and work during world war II. Women were encourgaed by the seriousness in the womens face and how strong she looks by flexing her arm. The thing that they have in common is self pormotion. They uses images to get the viewers (us) to fall into their trap.
How do these ideas contrast with those presented in the article?
The ideas from the article state that if you work less you work better. And that is true. In the summer i worked almsot everyday and got only one to two days off, it was overwhelming and stressful but i did it because i needed to stay busy and make some money. After summer i only worked the weekends and i saw myself work much better and harder becasue during the week i had time to myself to relax and get siked for working friday, saturday and sunday. Having that break improves someone so deeply because they can focus on their own personal lives as well. The images from the book SWW differ from this artcle becasuse they use figurative language to sell products or encourage to work becasue its better for you. Over working is a neative effect on people becasue they tend to have less time to cae about their own heatlh.
Which of these concepts of work do you most agree with?
Personally I agree with the concept of working less to work better because i could relate to it in every way, i used to work almost 40 to 50 hours and it wasnt good. i got lazy and bought mostly fast food and i didnt work out at all, i could tell that it wasnt healthy for me tobe working so much. The time i have for myself befrore the weekend is special to me becasue when i get to work im all pumped and ready to go.
I agree with the concept with work less for better work. I worked part time, picking up trash, and so I would only work 3-4 hours a day. Within those few hours though I manage to cover roughly 10 miles by walking. There was someone else who had to work 6-7 hours a day, and covers about the same amount as me. I could tell I was more proactive than my co-worker, and I manage to do about as much work in less time.
ReplyDeleteThe two pictures are encouraging people to work more more and harder. They completely differ from from the article for work less for better work. In my part-time job, my co-worker was unhappy about his condition he was in. Although it isn't the most pleasant conditions, they can still be fun. However, sense he had to work more he found it more unpleasant and boring. His health was also slowly getting bad from lack of proper protection. He was letting the work consume his life and didn't do as much as he used to do.
I also agree that if you work less you will perform better. I worked at a coffee shop in high school and it was always packed. I worked all day on Saturdays and Sundays at first and I was a great worker. Well, since I was a great worker they started working me every single day except Friday right after football practice. Well, I started to become a lazy worker and when Saturdays and Sundays would come around I would not be able to keep up because I was so exhausted and worn out. I requested to be moved back to just Saturdays and Sundays and I was a great and hard worker again. Me working too much caused me to become extra tired and not be able to perform like I did in the past when the restaurant got packed on the weekends. But whenever I requested to just do weekends I was able to perform at the level that I had been performing in the first place. I believe that the less you work the better you will perform.
ReplyDeleteI can do nothing but agree with this post. Back home my mom would always try to bombard me with chores and nothing would ever get done because sometimes it was just too much. But once she realized that wasn't working she started just assigning maybe 2 or 3 chores a day, and in a instant I became a holy child finishing all of the chores and sometimes even going beyond what she asked me to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you work less you will work harder. For example my first job was at sonic, I worked almost every day. I also was a dancer at my school, with working every day and being on the dance team was way too much for me. I was always tired, my grades were not that good, and I could not focus on anything. Finally I quit sonic and got another job at Austin Park and pizza. I was a party host and only worked on the weekends. I became more relaxed and actually did not mind working. At sonic I would try to find any excuse not to work because I hated it so much, but at Austin Park and pizza I came to work every day happy.
ReplyDeleteI also think that the longer the time people work, the less effort they put into that job. This problem can happen on any area related to school or a job outside of school. For example, I sometimes procrastinate on doing my homework or studying for a test because I think I still got some time to start doing it. When the time is getting closer, I start studying for long periods of time, and the amount of work that I actually get done is not very productive. If I would have study every day for a few hours, I would have performed better on my homework or test. It’s important to dedicate some quality time to things that really matter because that way, we will get more productive results.
ReplyDeleteI completely disagree, I always worked 10-12 hour days and money was my motivation. I never had a set schedule that I had to work, it was always when I wanted to leave I could leave. That just wasn't me, I'd rather work long days for one the more hours I put in the more money I made, and two the more work I got done meant the less work had to do the next day. I feel like the longer someone works, the more he/she will get done.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, I feel like I get more work done when I do it in a short amount of time. If i have the whole day to do something I wont get it done until the last minute but if i have only a short time to get it done I will focus on it and get it done because I know i have a deadline to meet. The more time you give people the less work they are going to do.
