Your Lifestyle Has Already Been Designed

I agree with  David Cain, our lifestyle has been designed for us. He writes about how different his life was when he was traveling the world with no source of income yet he was happier and he was able to go on without spending so much, compared to now that hes back to his 9-5 job with no free time but able to spend freely. By working 9-5 and getting a paycheck every 2 weeks he was careless with money because he knew it would be replenished which is what a lot of us do when we have a secure form of income we tend to spend without a care but when we know moneys tight it hurts to even spend 5 bucks on coffee. The argument about corporations and how they take a part in our spending's is true we tend to not need stuff but think that we do therefore we buy into what they are selling. The less free time we have the more we buy simply for convenience he says it keeps us unambitious outside of work which is true.

  1. I agree completely with the whole blog. We are very careless when it comes to money especially if we know we have enough to blow. But sooner or later everything takes a left turn and we are tight and desperate money. That is pretty much every average americans problem. We need to learn to be conservative almost all the time with our money because you never know when a rainy day is going to come and you'll need the extra cash.

  2. I agree and it sucks... the whole idea of the 40 hour week sucks. This article not only opened my eyes to that subliminal idea, it made me look into my major, the jobs I could get. I don't want to be one of the many tired, dissatisfied people here in America. i don't want to be the target market and seen as unhappy, tired all the time. It seems like the author enjoyed his 9 months of living unemployed in every aspect. He said he was more relaxed, more peaceful, he had time to exercise, read books, meet new people AND ON TOP OF THAT he managed to not spend as much money. If only there was a job that paid for doing that.

  3. I agree with you, we all spend money because we know we can easily get it back from how much we worked. I learned this by having a job this summer. I would spend so much money on things I did not really need because I knew I would make more money at work. Especially when you earn tips at you job it is so hard to save money because you spend all your tips and by the time you get your paycheck you need more money. It was made like this so we actually had a reason to work and would never stop. People feel that without money you can’t be happy. Which is only true because our society makes us think that way.
