Every morning, after I
woke up the first thing I do is to try to remember this quote. This quote makes
me think in a positive way. It helps me focus on myself and try to be a better
person every day. I’m always trying to not just be a better person to myself
but with other people. Trying to help others will have an impact in my life in some
way and that will make of my day a better day. I think that trying to start the
day with a positive thoughts, at the end everyone is going to have a great day.
Maybe a simple action or thought can help us to be better persons. It doesn’t
have to be a huge change, but if we try to follow this quote, we will be better
persons in the future. Having a positive thought at the beginning of the day,
can help us to make positive decisions. Sometimes we don’t notice but being
optimist can help other people’s feelings in a good way. We don’t just have to
be better to show that we are changing. If we want to change our lives, it will
be for our own benefit.Thursday, August 28, 2014

Teamwork
This picture shows teammates together at the end of a season with happy but disappointed faces. My team and I had just lost our last lacrosse game as a team. This picture shows that through teamwork anything can be achieved. We weren't predicted to go as far as we did in the playoffs but through teamwork and hard work we achieved great things together.None of us were outstanding players but together we formed a team that was outstanding. My teammates will always be my brothers and we will always be connected. All throughout the season we struggled to work together but we the time came down to it we pulled together and went farther than any expected. So through teamwork and perseverance anything can be achieved.
do or do not!
We Can Do It!
Ever since I found this image on a random magazine in the eighth grade, I have had some kind of connection with. The instructions were to make a collage out of magazine cut outs, that described us. Ms. Johnson's eyes quickly recognized the image and said "That is definitely you".Despite having a great father; a man that treats my mother my sisters and myself as royalty, my mother has always told me to NEVER depend on a man to get what I want and or to get where I want in life. I've grown to not only believe it, but to live by it. And not just a man, but anyone! I try to never depend on anyone to do things. Now-a-days more woman are getting their masters, degrees. Women are growing more independent by the years. They are growing and making history. I want to be one of those women.
Life Goal
This is ultimately my life goal. I am majoring in nursing and in a few years I want to relocate to Memphis, Tennessee and work at St. Jude's. I grew up in Nashville so Tennessee has always been home. Our family has always had a special place in our hearts for St Jude's, living in Tennessee St. Jude's is all you ever heard about. We would often pass it when we would come down to Texas and ever since I was little that's all I've ever wanted to do was work there. We've been fortunate enough that we've not had the chance to experience cancer first hand but the past two years I interned at Memorial City - Memorial Herman hospital in Houston and I would often work with cancer patients experiencing that really helped me realize what I wanted to do in the future. I always knew that I wanted to work in the medical field you could say it was my calling in life and I hope to fulfil it to the best of my ability.I hope that somewhere down the line I can make a change in a child's life.
Question
I feel like I always ask myself questions often that I do not know the answer to. Currently, I do not know what I am going to do with my life at all. My major is still "undecided". I do not know what I what or do. I do not even have a hobby. It seems like I am just in college right now just because my parents are telling me to go. I hope that these questions will someday will have an answer. One of my hopes and wishes is that I want to do something that I truly want to do.
Inspiration
Everyone has someone they look up to, maybe even wished they
were that person. You are probably thinking, “What a typical girl that loves Beyoncé.”
I mean who doesn’t love her? Besides the fact she is a very talented woman, she
inspires me in so many different ways. Social media makes girls feel
uncomfortable with their bodies and make them think that they have to be
skinny. Beyoncé proves that you don’t have to be a stick to be beautiful. We should
all feel amazing in our own bodies. She also teaches me that I do not need a
man in my life. A lot of woman depend on men to put a roof over their heads but
I know that I can be an independent woman and do not need to depend on anyone. She
makes more money than Jay-Z her own husband, that’s amazing to me. She has a
family and still accomplishes so much in life. Listening to her songs inspires
me to go out and accomplish anything I set my mind to. If you just believe in
yourself you will go very far in life and never give up. Not everyone’s
inspiration has to be famous or even a person. Just find something that you
love and helps to keep you going and trust me you will accomplish so much in
life.
Way Too Tired For This
I am so exhausted all of the time. Where I am from the heat is not like it is here. It is so hot every single day here. As soon as I walk outside it is like I Immediately start to sweat. Also, there are just so many stairs and steps here that by the time I arrive back at my dorm every day my legs feel like they are about to fall off. It gets exhausting walking all across campus every day. I realize that walking across campus going from class to class is all apart of the college experience, but at this point I am pretty tired of it. Needless to say, I am definitely not used to all of this yet. Most of the time I just want to go home and get away from all of this, but I realize that all of this is the first step to growing up and being on your own.
Arielle 1st Blog Post
"God is within her, she will not fall." Psalm 46:5
I decided to choose this text because it represents me very well. As women I think we are perceived not to really have an opinion or we are seen as weaker than men. To me this quote means that God will give us the strength that we need as women to over come anything. It represents me because number one, I believe in it. I believe that if I am having a bad day or if I feel like I just cant make it anymore, God will be there and even though I feel like it isn't worth it anymore, or I just can't do it, he will not let me fall. I think every girl should look at this quote and feel empowered by it.

Hiding being home sick?
Is anyone else going through this situation? I mean don't get me wrong I love getting to know the people I pretty much grew up with I just find it very strange.
Hard Work and Dedication
I believe that success comes with hard work and dedication. Ever since I was 15 I knew that I would have to buy my own truck. I worked every summer to earn enough money to eventually purchase my dream truck. I started off working at a tire shop in Sealy, TX making minimum wage and getting a pay raise every 6 months. When I turned 16 I checked my bank account and knew I didn't have enough money to buy a truck, so I just drove our old farm truck that has been passed down from generation to generation. I'd pull up to school everyday and see all of the nice trucks in the parking lot that everyone's parents paid for and I just told myself "one day I'll have a nice truck." By the time I was getting ready to leave for college I had enough money to go to the Ford dealership and start making payments on a new truck. Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted a big truck, hard work and dedication helped me succeed and achieve one of my childhood dreams.
Arboretum and Botanical Garden with my family
I choose this picture not only because it has a beautiful view, but it was also the last time that I saw my grandparents on my mother side, and since my mother's parents only visit us one time a year I never know which time will be the last time I'll see them. I love just going around sightseeing and enjoy the views that this Earth as to offer to us. I got to see plants and views that I had never seen. Before this trip to I haven't had that much of a chance be around my parents since both of them work and had become very busy in their work. I felt really special because this was a trip that my mother planned for me from graduating high school, and it was one of my best trips I've ever gone on.
Amazing Moments With Two Amazing People
This is my family, from left to right is my sister Crystal, my mom
and me.
I chose this photo because first of all that was our first time in
Time Square ! It was truly exciting, we all had a blast and ate hotdogs!! I
also chose this because family means everything to me, of course i'm not the
only one who chooses family over anything but in hard times i always had my
sister to go to and my mom to look up to. My mom pushed me to go to school and
get A's and B's, she never let me hangout with my friends unless i was passing
my classes. My sister and I have gotten so much closer, we talk more about our
days and laugh together more and just enjoy each others company. Not all brothers/sisters are close with each other, i'm thankful.
Welcome to Developmental Writing!
This will be our class blog for the semester. You should have already
received an invitation for how to join this blog as an author. You can
find instructions on TRACS for setting up your account.
On days when a reading has been assigned, you are expected to come to class prepared to engage in a conversation with the text and your peers. To help you prepare for these conversations, I will post reading questions to TRACS under the assignments tab. You will be expected to respond to these questions with either a blog entry or a blog comment. Your assigned peer group’s schedule will dictate whether you are responsible for a full blog entry or only a blog comment. The peer group that has been assigned to lead discussion for the day will responsible for posting that week’s blog entries, while all other peer groups are responsible for responding with blog comments. Though these grades are largely for completion, additional points may be gained by more thorough and thoughtful responses, and points may be deducted for incomplete or sloppy work or for work that shows little to no engagement with the text. Blog Entries must be a minimum of 250 words. They must be posted by 9:00 pm the night before class. Blog comments must be a minimum of 125 words, and they must be posted by class time the day the reading is due. Blog entries and comments will make up a significant portion of the Drafts and Blogs grade. In order to receive full credit for these assignments, blog entries and comments must be posted to the class blog by their deadline as well as printed out in hard copy form to bring to class. Late blogs and comments will not be accepted for credit. I will also not accept blog entries or comments via email.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at shilohbooker@txstate.edu or shilohbooker@gmail.com.
