effectve arguments

The Battle of the Ants- Henry David Thoreau describes the two different ants as a battle and was explaining their actions as if it was really happening. He says “they fought with more pertinacity than bulldogs.” He is saying that aunts can make better decisions than bulldogs which I thought was very interesting. I see ants all the time trying to get food but I never imagine it as a full on battle. I disagree with his explanation, the ants were just trying to get food from the chip I could not see it as a battle. I feel like he was just imaging everything and making it up.

Elephants Communicate in Sophisticated Sign Language- Joyce Poole says that the elephants have a sense of humor, I agree. I see elephants as playful and wanting to have fun. The elephants would play with the researcher’s vehicle, act like the elephant was tripping but just wanted attention and play. The elephants know that they are funny and like to charm. In the videos it shows how baby elephants love to play with one another and also their mother. This article helped me understand elephants and what each movement means. Not only elephants are playful they are also very smart. Elephants have very good hearing so they can tell from miles if something threatening is coming and they could move away from danger to a safe place. This is a survival skill that they need and without it they would not be able to survive

  1. I feel the same way about the elephants how they have a sense of humor. Also I feel the same way not only about the elephants but all animals. I feel like all animals know what is going on around them more then we think they do. Just because an animal can not talk does not mean It does not have feelings like we do. Like we said in class human feelings. But why do we have to say human feelings? I feel as if animals are more complex then we think.

  2. I agree with your opinion on "the Battle of the Ants", I believe that those ants were just trying to get the chip and that humans are just twisting and adding stuff to their actions. A "battle" is a human term. Battles do not exist in animal world, I think. Humans make up horrible things like a battle, to win or earn something that they want.
I also feel like elephants are very friendly and playful. They enjoy playing with each other. I feel like all animals are like this, not just elephants. We all live to survive but we all have some enjoyment and playfulness.

  3. I do not think that the ants were fighting each other also. The writer does not know if they were doing it or not. He is just imagining and comparing them with events that have been written in the past or with past stories. It is good to do that kind of comparison because it helps to understand the writing better because the readers are having a clear image of what is going on in the text. Having this kind of visual presentations help to understand, and remember the stories that the writer is comparing the ants with. For example, when the writer uses the word Myrmidons, he is comparing the ants to an event that happened during the Trojan War.

  4. When people say that animals don't have their own language I tell thin that they are nuts. This article explains very well how elephants have their own language, sense of humor, and their own ways of expressing their feelings. I agree with this, the elephant knew what it was doing when it acted like it tripped over the car. It had its own sense of humor and way of telling the scientist "look I'm right here come play with me. These elephants are really nice and playful and don't mean any harm. I've personally never seen the "bad" side of elephants so I think of them as sympathetic and beautiful creatures. I think that animals really communicate with on another because they are very sophisticated.
